White collar crimes: Texas teen charged with embezzlement

Running a store is often a challenging endeavor. Often, there are many financial and personnel decisions that must be made. Someone without a great deal of experience could easily make mistakes. Unfortunately, what could simply be a mistake could lead to accusations of white collar crimes. For example, a Texas teenager was recently charged with embezzlement.

The 19-year-old male was reportedly working as the store manager at a Mattress Firm. A district manager working with a loss prevention officer reportedly discovered approximately $40,000 missing from the franchise following an audit. As a result, the district manager conducted an interview with the teenage store manager.

According to the district manager, the teenager admitted to embezzling money from the store. Reports claim that he described charging existing customer accounts for merchandise that they did not purchase. He then reportedly sold that merchandise to other customers, resulting in sales commission. Though the district manager submitted paperwork to police and claims that the teenager signed a 10-page document describing the alleged theft, reports claim that the latter declined to cooperate with police and has not given a formal statement.

Allegations involving white collar crimes are often complex. Unfortunately, a conviction can carry serious consequences, but most people in Texas do not have a sufficient understanding of the law to allow them to make informed decisions about their cases. As a result, many seek guidance from an experienced criminal defense attorney who can guide them through the process whether they opt to fight the charges in court or accept an offered plea deal.
